Philip Hossu's studio table in January 2023
Studio Table, January 2023

I’m a self-taught painter working primarily in watercolor, though I also enjoy oil pastel and graphite, and have more recently begun writing too. My work focuses largely on landscapes and urban scenes, inspired by places I’ve spent time in across Europe and North America, as well as by the way my faith shapes how I see them. I’ve shown my work in a variety of local settings over the past few years.

Outside of art, my background is in STEM and I work in a related field, which makes artistic pursuits an important counterweight. To me, a successful painting is deceptively simple: work that makes you pause for a moment and perhaps recognize something familiar, or remember a place you haven’t thought about in years.
