Paintings in My Favorite Coffee Shop | October 24, 2022

Until the end of November, 12 of my paintings will be on display at Tredwell Coffee in Wheaton (1915 N Gary Ave). I’m thankful for this opportunity — if you happen to be local, please stop by and support the cafe. This year I’ve found myself in one of their chairs almost weekly, getting a bit of quiet time on Sunday afternoon to read a book and sip a reasonably priced espresso.

If we’re being honest, putting this together was a lot more work than I expected. From cutting out the mats to signing and selecting the paintings, hours upon hours of tedious work replaced my usual evenings. I am quite happy with the outcome.

On advice of a professional artist, I’ve focused my energy on simply putting my best foot forward and displaying favorite recent paintings. Not getting bogged down with all the details and options. This is my first time putting art on display this way. It’s a rarity in more than one way…choosing to put myself out there instead of sitting back like I normally do… I’m happy to contribute to a place I enjoy, and hope that the cafe’s customers enjoy some watercolors on the wall.

Setting up: 6 on the main level, 6 on the stairs.

Publishing the Website | October 1, 2022

As I sit here and get this website together & online, I have some time to reflect on my own images. I can’t help but be pleased with how far I’ve come since my first painting (below, March 20, 2021).

Unlikely that I’d be able to forget that day for some significant time. Very bittersweet.

I wonder sometimes how long this hobby will last. From no particularly creative pursuits to multiple paintings a week…seems to have come out of nowhere. I am thankful for it.

I notice unexpected aspects of older 2021 paintings that shine through despite the final products — a meaningful brushstroke, a clever choice of color, a tasteful accidental bloom.

Although I feel I’ve begun to gravitate towards a particular style, I hope to continue being open to trying completely different variations. Maybe one day I’ll try to paint a proper building again too. Or maybe even a bird.
